"Its a great timer with super extras. I recommend it highly." - TUAW Review, 26th July 2010

Note: This version is iOS7 compatible. A free update with upgraded design is coming soon.

Equanimity has been very carefully designed to help you establish and maintain a daily meditation practice.

The elegant meditation timer times your sittings, provides a beautiful journal for sitting notes, and displays graphical tracking giving you clear feedback on your meditation practice. Its carefully designed to be the ideal companion for anyone who meditates.

The journal is comparable in quality to many standalone note-taking apps. It allows you to optionally take notes after your sittings, and lets you browse through your meditation history as either a visually annotated log or textual journal. All of your recorded data can be exported, as a nicely formatted email that you can print, or as a table that you can load into a spreadsheet. You can also email individual entries - useful for posting them on a blog.

Easy to read graphics let you know at a glance how regularly you are meditating, and how long your daily practice has been going. A chart illustrates your progress over the course of the year, and a bar graph shows the total number of hours you have meditated.

To remind you if you forget to sit, the application icon optionally counts the number of days since you last meditated.

Its much easier to keep going with a routine when you can see so clearly how you are doing.

The timer shows time passing using clean graphics that let you see at a glance where you are within your sitting period without being unduly distracted.

If your meditation routine incorporates different stages within a single sitting, you can set chimes to ring at the appropriate points using straightforward controls.

You can turn off the ringer and the gongs will still sound, so you dont need to worry about being interrupted by phone calls or SMS. If you need to attend to a message briefly, you can carry on from where you left off. For people whose meditation practice involves chants or prayer, you can also switch to other apps and the timer will still run and the chimes will still ring.

Because the timer is intended to be used every day, the design provides a calm and clear experience without unnecessary clutter.

This application has helped me to make meditation a daily practice, and I hope it can do the same for you.

Pros and cons of Equanimity - Meditation Timer & Tracker app for iPhone and iPad

Equanimity - Meditation Timer & Tracker app good for

I love this app but since the start of 2103, the bottom bar that shows the accumulated progress by month doesnt work any more. Pls. fix!
I like the variety of possibilities yet the simplicity of this app. One improvable thing though is the can-like sound of the bell. There are apps with beautiful bell sounds like i-Qi clock. To me this is the only point left to fix for a five-star rating.
And believe me, I have tried a few. What I still miss are presets, since I use various meditation time settings frequently. Keep it up, Be happy
Im a Vipassana meditator and view this tool as an essential companion to establishing a continuous practice. I use it daily, enter logs daily, view my progress over time daily... Simple design with amazing features. Its designed for beginners as well as advanced users. It offers a warm up period, interval timers and a cool down period if needed. You can really customize it for the type of sit you want to do. Plus the bells for the timers remind me of being at my meditation center. They sound great. Could be the best $5 ever spent if it deepens your practice and thats exactly what its done for me.
For a mere 5 dollars this app has restarted my spotty meditation practice. I like the fact that I can look back at the consistency of my sittings rather than relying on my (somewhat) faulty memory. I hope one day that soothing sounds (rain storms, ocean waves, forest sounds etc) will be added to this app. It would also be nice if a guided breathe visualization could also be added (i.e. an expanding circle for breathing in, contracting circle for breathing out).
Works well, as advertised. Not sure it is competitively priced but I feel it is worth it for me (it is an elegant and high quality experience).

Some bad moments

Ive emailed the dev, Robin, twice lately about a bug when running on iOS 8.3 but have not received a reply. The interval setting function no longer works. Any help please? Robin???
Bugs are surfacing (specifically, resetting the duration of a session doesnt work properly now), but with no developer support or updates in years, I dont expect theyll be fixed. Time for a new meditation timer app.
I love equanimity and am a long time user. Sadly the journaling function now crashes when a start taking notes. The timer and session tracking still function ok, but I was a regular journal user and its disappointing to have to move to a journaling tool disconnected from my session date & duration records.
Clean, simple, easy to use, and does exactly what I want it to do.
I love this app and use it daily! The only thing I dont like is the strict definition of "consecutive" as far as calculating your streak. If you sit at 9pm one night and 11:45pm the next night it will start your streak over (boo!). I wish theyd let you set your own day definition (maybe 10am - 10am is your "day" due to work, etc) and streak leeway thresholds to suit ones personal style and goals.
After 7 month months of twice-daily use, Im truly impressed. This apps interface is really elegant and it has kept my practice on track. On more than one occasion, I changed my mind about skipping a session, because I didnt want to screw up my daily tracking record. Ive become more relaxed and in better health as a result of my meditation practice. This apps developer—Robin Brooah—deserves a good chunk of the credit for that fact. Equanimity Meditation Timer and Tracker is a quality product.
